Meet Jotadejai – Where Everyday Moments Become New Worlds

For Jotadejai, inspiration begins with the little things others might overlook. An unusual balcony, a passing stranger or an unexpected detail can spark an idea that grows into an imaginative world of color, pattern and playful storytelling.

Where do you usually find inspiration for your designs?

Most of my inspiration comes from observing everyday life. I love going for walks, looking around instead of just looking ahead, and noticing the little details that most people walk right past, an interesting balcony, an unusual person or something completely unexpected. That's when my imagination takes over. I start asking myself, "What if I took this a little further?" and begin imagining the world around that first idea. That's usually where a new idea begins.

How do you choose the colors and patterns for your designs?

For me, colors and patterns always grow together. Everything starts with one simple idea, and from there I begin building a little world around it. I use color to create emotion rather than recreate reality, and over the years I’ve developed a palette that has become part of my visual language.

I rarely think about a single pattern on its own. If the starting point is a flower, for example, I start imagining the garden it belongs to, what grows around it and which colors best express that world. That’s how one idea can grow into a whole family of patterns.

What’s one wallpaper design you’d love to create but haven’t yet?

I'd love to create a wallpaper that people can get lost in. The kind of design that's full of little details and keeps revealing something new over time. I'd love it to feel so immersive that you can almost smell the flowers or the salty air.

I think that's what I love about paintings by Henri Rousseau or Bosch's The Garden of Earthly Delights; they invite you into another world. That's the feeling I'd love to create one day.
