How to hang Happy Mattic Peel&Stick wallpaper

Prep your wall

Using a damp cloth or sponge, clean the surface with warm water and mild soap. Allow the walls to dry for a minimum of 24 hours.

While cleaning, check that your wall is smooth. Textured surfaces (such as Artex or rough plaster) make peel & stick wallpaper difficult to apply. For textured walls, we recommend our conventional non-woven wallpaper with paste instead.

If you have freshly painted walls, wait 4-6 weeks before application to allow the paint to fully cure. If the wall colour is very different from your wallpaper, paint it a light, even shade first, as dark colours may show through.

Prepare the wallpaper panels

Lay all panels flat to remove any curl from the roll. Allow them to rest for at least 24 hours in the room where they will be installed so they can acclimatise to the temperature and humidity.

Step 1: Check and organise your panels

Unroll and separate the panels as indicated by the cutting symbols. Lay them flat with the label facing upwards, arranged in numerical order starting with panel 1. Make sure you have all the panels and check for any defects or damage.

Step 2: Ensure the first panel is straight

The first panel must be perfectly vertical. Make a light pencil mark one panel width (50 cm) from your starting corner near the ceiling. Use a plumb line or level to draw a vertical line down the wall. Align your first panel with this line.

Step 3: Apply the wallpaper

Peel the backing paper off slowly, about one-third at a time. Smooth the wallpaper onto the wall with your hands as you go. Work from the middle outward to prevent air bubbles. Find the technique that works best for you.

Step 4: Join panels edge to edge

Position panels edge to edge without overlapping. If a panel isn't perfectly positioned, carefully peel it back and reposition it. The repositionable adhesive allows for adjustments.

Step 5: Remove air bubbles

Once your panels are on the wall, use the soft squeegee to smooth out any air bubbles between the wallpaper and wall. Work from the centre outward with firm, even strokes to ensure proper adhesion.

Step 6: Trim excess

After all panels are hung, use a sharp blade to trim excess wallpaper along the ceiling and floor. A sharp blade prevents tearing.

Enjoy your new space!

Step back and admire your transformed room.
